Alewife Air Wins 2019 Minors Championship

The 2019 Somerville Little League Minors division season came to a close with Alewife Air sweeping Siena Construction in the best-of-three series.

Game 1 featured Alewife taking a slim lead, led by Kayleb Seeley on the mound for the first three innings.

Siena managed to put the brakes on Alewife briefly with Zac Swango coming in to relieve, but the lanky 10-year-old didn’t manage to completely silence Alewife’s bats.

Alewife Air responded by putting in a closer of their own, Max Pfromm, who was nearly perfect for two innings and totaled nine strikeouts in this outing. He held tight in the third despite Siena getting runners on and got assistance on two outs from third baseman Grey Palmer. Alewife won the game 7 to 4.

Two days later, Alewife Air took the field hard and rarely let up. With five runs racked up in the first inning, Alewife put Miles Pfromm on the mound. He threw for four-and-a-half innings and garnered a total of 11 strikeouts. Swango  took the mound for Siena in the second and managed to slow the pace a little into the fourth inning. However, Alewife managed to keep scoring and slowly pulled farther ahead each inning.

In the fifth inning with Alewife comfortably ahead 14 to 2, Miles Pfromm relinquished the mound to Emily Joughin with one out. Siena threatened with a Swango home run and managed to put a couple runners on. A high popup handled surely by Miles Pfromm, now playing shortstop, was rocketed to his brother Max at second, and Alewife finished the game 14 to 3 on a double play.
