T-ball clinic begins Saturday May 4th
by posted 04/29/2013

Hello T-ball families,

The T-ball program begins this coming Saturday May 4th at 9 am at Conway Field on Somerville Avenue.  The program will run every Saturday morning at Conway until Saturday June 22nd.  We will not hold the clinic on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend (Apr 25th).

Please ensure your player has a baseball glove.  Uniforms will be handed out this Saturday.  Each player receives a shirt and hat.  We will continue to hand uniforms out on subsequent Saturdays for those players who can't attend the first session.

We divide the kids up into four to six informal teams. The reason we wait until Saturday to form teams is to give families the opportunity to request that their son or daughter play on the same team as a friend, if that's desired.

Our goal is to introduce the kids to the fundamentals of the game - throwing, catching, running, and swinging the bat by circulating them through various skills stations.  Studies have shown that the kids become more accomplished at the game if they get more touches on the ball.  Games don't necessarily achieve that goal.  Practices and skill stations do.  That's why our focus will be on skill stations.  Occasionally we'll break the kids up into actual games based on shirt/hat color, but the games are very informal since we're working with very young kids.

See you this Saturday!

Weekly Skills clinic for Majors & Minors players
by posted 04/24/2013

Hello Majors & Minors families,

Over the past couple seasons we've heard valuable feedback from many of you about the need for more practice time for our baseball players.  We couldn't agree more.  Practice time is essential.....the constant repetition of catching and throwing the ball, swinging the bat, and running the bases.  The only way a player can truly improve is to get more touches on the ball.

To meet this need SLL is offering a weekly skills clinic for Majors & Minors players during the season.  All Minor teams will participate on Mondays, and Major teams on Thursdays.  Veteran LL coach Dan Scrima will be running the clinic with coaches from every team in attendance to help.  All clinic sessions are at Foss Park 5:30 pm.

Our goal is to utilize consistent methods of teaching and practicing so that our players become more accomplished at playing the game of baseball. Please consider the skills clinic as an official practice session for your player.   In fact, these clinic sessions will be entered on every team's schedule as an easy reminder.   Please make every effort to attend.  Regular attendance translates into a better skilled player.

The clinic will begin the week of April 29th with our first Minors session on Monday Apr 29th, and Majors session on Thursday May 2nd.  Please remember - Minors players attend every Monday, and Majors players every Thursday at 5:30 pm Foss Park

thank you,

SLL
